Lions and Volunteer Teachers Brighten the Day of Child Patients
Baguio City Host Lions Club recently teamed up with a group of dedicated teachers bound by a common goal to improve literacy among children. The four educators – Rowe Naval, Belinda Santonil, Lilibeth Bongalon and Jenny Tare – got in touch with BCHLC for a joint project to promote reading and improve – in even small ways – the nutrition of children in need.
As part of its December gift-giving activities, BCHLC headed by Pres. Daniel Quiñones, met up with the teachers at the Pediatric Ward of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, where they started reading stories to the children and distributed story books to the children.
The two volunteer groups then proceeded to distribute apples and oranges to the children and their parents and guardians. This was particularly special to Lion Jamela, who is an “apple ambassador,” part of a network of individuals across the globe who promote the consumption of apples and endorse its many health benefits, being rich in antioxidants and fiber. Other health benefits of eating apple include lowering one’s cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of diabetes, which affects one’s eyesight.
