Recycle for Sight
Lions collect used eyeglasses, clean, sort and repackage them. These recycled glasses are then distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
Baguio City Host Lions Club regularly receives shipments of recycled glasses from its twin club East Kaua’i Lions Club and multiple clubs of District 50 Hawaii. EKLC Past President Lion John Ochoco, Past District Governor Lion Roy Nishida, and Chair Lion Alice Kudo of the District 50 Eyeglass Recycling Committee spearhead the effort in collecting, cleaning, packing and shipping the glasses to Baguio City.
Once at the BCHL Clubhouse, administrative secretary Melissa Oriente and other Lion volunteers read the prescription strength of these recycled glasses using a lensmeter and sort the glasses accordingly. The recycled glasses are then ready for distribution during the club's optical missions.
